In 1986 a band called The Triffids released an album called Born Sandy Devotional which actually featured a pre breakwall Mandurah image on its cover.

Today 24 years later the coastline has gone under huge changes. With change not everyone wins. The local wildlife is forced into new areas and housing prices sore with new water front developments popping up.

For the metro bodyboarding community there was a fear that Mandurah would be lost for ever when a new rock wall was built to shelter the near by beach from erosion. these days the sand has built up back into the corner and its all on.

This spot is somewhat of a lifesaver for most guys based out of Perth with the local beach breaks not really offering much in the way of quality waves.

Thanks to Mike Maxted for these images of the boys taking full advantage of the upside of change and development.
