When you're faced with a swell hitting the 8ft mark and breaking on less than 3ft of water the safer option is normally the best option.

But those who risk often prosper. I had been out of the salt for a while and with little or no thought I packed my pole rig and super wide lens and headed out to Shark Island yesterday. It was great and the waves were amazing and after a while I tried a few longer higher angles to try capture the reef.

My cockiness got the better of me and I was sucked over the falls and smashed onto the reef housing first! My lens port now resembles road kill and well the cuts will heal but the port has a date with the bin.

I swam back out and continued to shoot and the results are ok, but the misty haze you might see in a few is the damage I speak off.

Hope you enjoy and look out today for more island action captured from the safety of land!
