Can someone please pull their finger out already it's 2010?

It's been over five years since Jeff Hubbard first successfully (well kind of anyway, I am not some sort of expert) landed a 720 Air Reverse. Also I should mention here that Brazilian Jose Otavio has also got some good proof in his Youtube clip which has over 57'500 views that he also bagged one around this time.

People claim they have done them, People have used jetski's to gain some needed extra power to get that extra rotation but let's face it, unless they become part of someone's regular bag of tricks they might as well be talking about chucking in an extra 360 degrees and make it a 1080. It's not worth squat unless there is cold hard proof people.

Progression in the sport is not dead. The once erratic invert to air reverse combo is by far the newest crowd pleaser. All you need do is check out the recent clips doing the rounds with guys from all over the world nailing them in all sorts of waves with perfectly functional style.

Nearly thirty years ago Pat Caldwell invented the El Rollo and then people took the simpler of moves one step further by adding a spin mid air. Now the Air Roll Spin is kind of written off, replaced by the Backflip and all the variations, which go along with it.

Will the reverse Air spin become a retro move? Not likely but only time will tell. Things do have a way of going full circle and making a revival. A few years ago I noticed riders bring back the simple roll with all types of variations.

Today I sit in the office raising my eyes now and then to catch the TV screen playing the Winter Olympics in the joining room. Snowboarding a relatively new addition to the schedule, but is from what I can see a bit of a office pleaser. Men dressed in ironed business shirts with silk ties stand around amazed, discussing the skill in involved in their performance and just how exciting it is over the five thousand meter Speed Skating. (I prefer the Skeleton for the record)

I understand that it takes a certain wave to perform these moves on and I am not expecting this to happen from a weak fat beach break. With being at the mercy of the ocean and the waves it generates we are unable to practice in say the way Shaun White would of perfected his Double McTwist 1260 in the half pipe Red Bull just built for him in the hills of Silverton Mountain. But don't let that deter you. Mother Nature has a certain way of sculpting a wave no mortal man could.

Can the Mitch Rawlins and Dave Winchesters please make 2010 the year of the 720? Or will it be the new breed of European riders who are demanding attention with amazing performances over the last few years? I personally don't care who does it I just want to see something new.

Take a look at these images of Dave Winchester performing a soon to be out dated 360 degree  Air Reverse spin, Dave that is so last season!
