Jared Houston is ear marked for big things after really leaving his mark on the bodyboarding world with an amazing season in Hawaii. Jared's name was on many big wigs lips with charging hard and riding smooth up and down the golden strip of the North Shore. We tracked down Jared for a quick little Q&A a fews days ago.

You seem to be a regular face around Australia these days are you living out here now?

I dont call Australia home but I have spent a bloody long time here haha!
I really hope to go home in September for a few months, but I will be here for the winter and the next few months, hopefully getting some waves and be doing some trips for magazines and video projects.

Tell us about the whole Pipeline Pro experience?
Man it's pretty hard to put into words. Basically it was the definition of a dream come true,I have always hoped to place at Pipe but kind of never really believed it would happen? There are alot of amazing bodyboarders and to make it to the last 4 was more than I could ever ask for! I had a lot of support from my Saffa Crew and even a bunch of the Ozzies got behind me and I couldnt of done it without them,so thanks boys!

What is the vibe like back home in South Africa at the moment with bodyboarding?
The Vibe is pretty strong,I hope my result inspired a lot of the new and old faces to get off their butts and really make something out of it. There are a bunch of really talented bodyboarders in SA, we have a tour(a pretty competitive one at that),a website and a magazine. So things are steady!

Any exciting plans for 2010?
Plans for 2010 are pencilled in on paper I just need to seal the deal, I can confidently say I will be gving the World Tour a good crack this year with the help of certain parties and im really just so STOKED on the way things are going this year, bodyboarding is the best sport ever and I am so proud to be a part of it! So excited for 2010!

What is your favorite new down under past time?
I still can't get over how much Australians can drink, cases of beer are gone in minutes! I am not much of a drinker but I can appreciate your beers they're super similar to the brews at home. Kangaroo steak, Gods gift to man. I cant get enough of it.
But seriously, you guys have an amazing country and I really like it here. It feels very similar to SA but everything operates better,I will stick around for a while if thats cool with you guys?

What is the biggest difference you notice between bodyboarding in South Africa and Australia?
The standout thing for me is the strength of the industry and it's self suffiency. I love that all the mags are different and there are so many online media outlets aswell. I really like that. Also there are so many different brands availiable and bodyboard only shops. Keep it going guys with a strong industry a strong future is a reality.

Thanks mate and good luck,
Fluidzone.

Big Thanks for these images of Jerry Ripping it up on the South Coast to Andrew Symthe and Turbo.

We conducted this interview late last week, yesterday Turbo Bodyboards released a press release regarding their new signing of Jared Houston the high flying springbok. Attached is a section of the press release.

Turbo Surf Designs is pleased to announce emerging star, Jared (Jerry) Houston has signed a long term contract to join the Turbo Global team.

Jerry is 20 years of age and without a doubt one of the hottest emerging talents in the sport of bodyboarding. Jerry is a proud South African who now spends the majority of his time in Australia, refining his riding in all conditions. Jerry was one of the stand outs of the Hawaii season in 2010, capping off the season with an impressive 3rd place finish in the IBA Turbo Bodyboards Pipeline Pro.

Turbo will be providing Jerry the financial backing to follow the IBA World Tour, along with the support to participate in some exciting new concept trips in the coming months.

Glenn Taylor, Head Shaper of Turbo Surf Designs, said the following in relation to Jerry joining the team:

"We are stoked to have Jerry join the team, his riding ability along with his attitude both in and out of the water are impressive considering he is still only 20 years old. He has a huge future in the sport. We actually were in discussions with Jerry for the Turbo team prior to the Pipe event but he simply left us with no choice after his performance at the event. Jerry will start off riding the iconic Turbo IV board and I look forward working with him on board design over the coming years."

"I am absolutely pumped on being a part of the Global Turbo team, I really like the image Turbo holds within bodyboarding and the boards are at the forefront of performance and durability. I am really looking forward to traveling and competing with the rest of the team in 2010, all the guys shred and I feel really privileged to be a part of Turbo's big plans for the future. I know it's going to take a lot of work, but with the epic support I'm getting, I feel really confident that I can achieve good things this year!" Said Jerry.
