We have 3 events in the month of May coming up Brazil, Chile and Peru. We thought we give you a little bit of information on each event. Locations, history, prize money, wave quality and babe factor.
5th - 9th May : Buzios Brazil Grand Slam
The Buzios competition is held in just north of Rio at a location called Geriba claimed as one of the most beautiful beaches in Brazil. Last year the event was treated to some solid conditions in which Eder Luciano won.
This year the event will have a prize pool of $50,000 USD for the event. 1100 points on offer for this event.
The waves on offer are powerful beach break peaks which will often be the biggest around as the location is a swell magnet of sorts.
Being in brazil the babe factor is high and more than likely they will be keen bodyboarders themselves. With warm weather minimum clothing will be needed. Be sure to treat them with respect and it wont hurt to brush up on your Brazilian greetings to help break the ice. Practice this Gostaria de uma caipirinha ,Would you like a Caipirinha? (national drink)

14th - 23rd May : Arica Chile Grand Slam
Arica has become one of the most popular stops on the World Tour. The event has been blessed with amazing waves and huge performances from the worlds best riders.
With the event moving forward on the calendar this year to fit into the three event tour of South America it could actually work in favor for the event. May tends to have lighter winds and longer offshore mornings.
On the table is a neat $25, 000 USD for the event and 2000 points. The venue is El Gringo a heavy peak which tends to have more consistent left handers but can throw a right every now and then. Hubb found a huge ramp on the rights last yeah and Tom Rigby used the rights to his advantage to advance through many rounds. Mike Stewart wont he event last year and it was so much the joy of winning it brought him to tears in front of thousands of fans.
Just looking at the press images of last years event you can see the towns finest babes turn out for a chance to catch a look at the guys. The best of the best seem to be hand picked to become promo girls by contest director Tomate Peralta. Chilean women like to dance so brush up on some salsa dance classes. Its a little cold down in these parts so a few extra layers of clothing will be draped over the girls, maybe get your hands onto a poncho to simply fit in? Practice this Quieres un pisco sour , Would you like a Pisco Sour (national drink)
The event has a nice website at www.chilebodyboard.com
26-30th May : Peruvian Inka Challenge
Peru has been flying under the radar for sometime now as a location for a competition. Last year the event ran for the first time and a small group of international competitors made the venture south before heading to Chile for the event. This year in 2010 the event is a top ranked contest and finishes off the South American leg of the World Tour.
The waves on offer at Chilca Point are a super heavy beach break which last year reached around 8ft,. Chad Jackson and Ryan Hardy made the trek to the even last year and both claim that its one of the heaviest beach breaks they have ever surfed! Last year Jeff Hubbard took out the event and this year he is hoping to return and make it two in a row.
A prize purse of $20,000 USD will ensure that the top riders attend and there is also 1000 points on offer.
Not ever being to Peru myself I can not directly quote on the babe factor but after doing some research online I have confirmed my suspicions of Peru housing some beautiful women who often wear lama wool head wear. Try your hand at the pan pipes to try arouse the girls. Practice this (same as Chile) Quieres un pisco sour , Would you like a Pisco Sour (national drink)
The competitions website features a great clip with highlights from last year and has all the detail about the event and even some suggestions to what else you can do whilst in the area.
