Movement Magazine issue 2 to this day is still one of the best all round bodyboarding magazines I have ever worked on, looked at and been proud to show to people who wonder "What is this boogie boarding thing?"

In one week two of the biggest sessions of 2004 would take place that I feel shaped a whole new generation of proud bodyboarding folk. Issue 2 had a lot to live to as the premiere issue was a raging success but people doubted whether the magazine could continue its edgy fresh content. This issue would also be the first time two separate covers would be released. One featured Ben Horricks at Cyclops, the other Toby Player at Lunas.

A brash group of men from the countries west fueled by post Tension Video hype were on the hunt for their next big video exclusive, their target was the fabled Cyclops. With little to no idea of where or how to find the wave the boys spent some serious time in and around the far south west coast in search.

Once locating the wave it was just a matter of sitting and waiting for the right conditions. One chilly April morning those conditions came about. The crew on hand consisted of Chris White, Sean Virtue and Chad Jackson. Whitey manning the video camera sat quietly in the channel and the test dummies paddled their way to the peak. That first attempt would end before it would really ever got started with Chad Jackson breaking his back first wave. (whole different story this one)

That night the boys made some calls and two new recruits and a photographer would be called in for the next swell. Dave Winchester, Ben Horricks and Eric Regnard (tungsten) arrived and well the rest is history. Virtue adopted a helmet for the second attempt Ben scored the cover and the whole session featured in the amazing Tension 7.

The second session to raise the bar was the controversial Luna Park super session which featured Damian King and Toby Player. This session would spawn a thousand road trips to the before forgotten Victorian coastline. I had been informed about this spot by some guys who had scored it earlier in the year and I myself had tasted a few fruitless missions before this session. At the same time the guys on the west coast were locking into some amazing right handers we were scoring a brand new left.

I called Kingy and Toby who were on the road for a promo tour and told them nothing besides the airport location I needed them and when they had to be there. From first light I knew that at some stage I would be shooting the best session of my career. As you all can see we scored and the guys charged so hard that still today I think its the hardest I have ever seen any athletes perform. Of course there was some locals, and I use this loosely as they never even thought about riding the waves until they saw these two tackle the before thought unridable, who kicked up some fuss. The session is featured in Damian King's first bio movie The Joker.

These two sessions were before people thought about towing and sure people are getting crazy waves these days and pushing the limits but its flashback friday for gods sake. I was actually told that 9 time World Champion Kelly Slater when he was shown this magazine by Chris Bryan former bodyboarder and now cinematographer for Quiksilver, That Kelly said it was the hands down the best overall wave riding magazine around due to those sessions and how nuts it was compared to what else was going on at the time.
Look at what these two sessions did and what the men who road these mountains achieved. Be proud.
