15 year old Lewy Finnegan is one lucky kid. As most kids his age are looking at the 2 weeks ahead trying to work out how they are going to suck the most out of their short but sweet school holidays, Lewy will be into his 2nd week of a 3 week trip on the East Coast of the country hanging out with his sponsors and heros.

We conducted a quick Q & A to get some back ground and keep an eye on the site for updates and photos from his holiday as he hangs out and surfs he way around the place with Dave Winchester.

Ok mate lets kick this off with the big question how did you get an extra week off school and get to hang out and go surfing over here with Dave Winchester?

I spoke to my Mum a while back and just asked her really. My sponsors took care of getting me lined up with Winnie and it was a good time for me to come over as its between state round comps. I am in year 11 and I have just finished some exams which I passed all of so that helped Mum's decision I think.

What is the main purpose besides bailing on school for your trip over here?

Just to surf different waves I think. I would love to surf Nuggan and Blackrock. The waves have been epic back home of late and I have been hitting the road chasing it all over the state, though it just feels good to be somewhere new. School is not really my number one focus but I am doing pretty well so it fine to miss the week I think. Surfing with Winnie will be amazing also. I hope to surf some big stuff if the chance pops up and even check out the Island competition if it runes while I am here.

We have been keeping an eye on your video blogs, seems like you and your mates are pretty handy with a camera?

Yeah we love it, there is always someone filming sessions when we surf. Its a good way to show your surfing to people from outside of your area and also to help improve your style. We have been filming a lot of late and I hope to have a new clip out real soon actually. I tried out for the Movement groom trip with one of the videos but I did not make the cut, which makes me want to try harder now.

Your sponsored by some pretty big companies, whats the newt few years going to involve for you to promote your sponsors and yourself?

The next few years are the most important I figure as I need to build my profile and become a more of an all-round rider. My sponsors are pretty happy with my results on a state level and I dream of being able to compete on the World Tour one day and surf places like Hawaii and Chile. I will need to work on surfing bigger waves though its pretty hard living in Perth. I would like to follow the likes of Alex Halsey and Sam Bennett they both rip and seem to be doing really well. If I can be like them in 2 years I would be stoked. With the help of Pride, Grand Flavour and Reeflex I hope to just improve and gain coverage.

Ok is there anything you want to say to any of your school members who might be reading this and wondering where you have been all week?

Big sorry to Mr Toth my maths teacher, I did not tell him I was going away for a week and he will be a little angry I think. Actually most of my teachers will be wondering but it's all cool.

EAST COAST ADVENTURES  - By Lewy Finnegan

There have been some funny times, some disappointing times, some good times, and some hectic times.

The whole week so far I have been trying to explore and absorb as much of the new coastline as I can whether it is by bike or car. I have had some fun surf's around the place mostly at Curly.

On Sunday I had a comp at Whale Beach which was pretty sick seeing some of the east coast guys. They were all surfing really well and in the end I got 2nd.

On Tuesday I had a near death experience on Mr Wezlington's million-dollar bike that I'm pretty sure by the sound of things he had to take out a loan to buy it. Haha, I was checking a few reef breaks at LongReef headland and on the way back down the hill I was bombing it around a bend where an oversize shell made of rock had been put in the middle of the path. Not knowing that Wez's brakes were the best in the world I slammed on the back brake metres before the shell. I was in a sand patch so I skidded sideways making an eerie screaming sound, and the biker spun out of contol and I was pretty much going sideways straight for the shell sculpture, but instinctively I let go of the brake and somehow corrected the bike to just miss the shell. I stopped for a few seconds to see if I had actually survived what just happened. I looked around and almost everyone nearby, including golfers, people walking their dogs, and runners, were just looking at me as if I was a little try hard trying to burn some rubber so I quickly rode away back to Wez's apartment.

After that Wez took me to the Le Boogie studio to meet Phil and Toby, who are cool guys. We did a short interview and took some photos for Fluidzone and then drove back home.

Yesterday I thought I'd remember the fastest route to Curly from Collaroy but I must say, I was way off. I found myself trekking up the biggest hills I have ever seen, let alone have to ride up with my bodyboard gear. After about half an hour of riding I got to Curly, which was pretty fun and surfed It for a few hours. On the way home after once again trekking up the hills I realised there was a flat road that went around them. Rooky mistake. We made a killer Spaghetti that night and watched a hectic TV show about cops being killed by a notorious Sydney gang, which made me feel really safe about riding around by myself...

Today the waves are pretty small so I'm in the warehouse with Mr Wezlington and Marcus getting my facebook fix and writing this diary. Checked the charts... I can see the swell
