This morning in the freezing cold and dark a small group of balding* men stood starring at the ocean. A bigger but less vocal crowd stood waiting their fates. Officials stood crossed armed and shoulder to shoulder oddly lit by a single laptop checking latest weather readings. With every moment the sun grew in size the harsh truth was being revealed. The swell had not arrived and the wind was turning quicker than hoped.
A tough but honest decision was made by contest director Alex Leon to postpone the event again with the hope of better conditions on the way. The official extenuation date is now until the 3rd of August.
With the 16 competitors on hand this morning the Fluidzone webcast team decided to bang on a live expression session to keep the loyal web viewers happy. Some standout performances in the less than average conditions went down and the team were able to grab some interviews on the fly with challenge competitors as the entered and left the water.
Keep an eye here on the site for any swell predictions and a little highlights reel form this morning coming in the next day or two. And as always keep the faith and cross your fingers and toes for us, they don't call this the challenge for nothing.
* Men actually were not bald before the start of this stressful operation of predicting Shark Island and running the Challenge.
