Well the first event of the European leg of the IBA World Tour has seen a mass exodus of Australians in some of the worst waves you could imagine for a competition. Even World Title hopeful Amaury Leverhne was knocked in his first heat in round 4.

By the time the semi finals came around it was a mixed bag of Europeans, Brazilians and a lone Hawaii.

Pierre made the quarter final look half decent and I did see Dave Hubbard do 5 rolls and 6 spins on one wave? The final really lacked any of the exciting action associated with the end of a major world tour competition but a result is a result when your slogging it out on the world tour. It all can't be epic Chilean tubes or barreling backdoor at Hawaii.

One novel bit of fun it seemed was Kingy and Jake Stone towing the beaches getting extreme for the crowd of women in nice bikinis who stood meters away from "Massive inverted and reverse airs!"

When the final was wrapped up under grey skies at Sopelana the 2010 winner was Guilherme Tamega it was a one man final the whole way. GT looked as if he was really just wanting to move onto the next stop and get on with it after such hard work in the conditions. There was no rush of crowd who had waited on the shore to enter the lineup and surf the previous off limit section of waves, only a crowd of fellow competitors and locals ready to suck back on some free coca cola and maybe sample some local paella.

Guilherme Tamega turned 36 years old this year and has been on tour for 14 years, in that time he has been crowned World Champion 6 times.
