Here's what the Poms are doing to grow their Bodyboarders. A great initiative. We need more of this here in Oz:

Champion British surfers on national coaching tour for leading magazines

The UK's most successful surfer Russell Winter and British Senior Champion bodyboarder Rob Barber will be taking to the road this summer with top surfing magazines Carve and ThreeSixty to coach surfers and bodyboarders across the UK.

Taking in many of Britain's surf regions - including Ireland, Wales, Devon, Cornwall and Jersey - the 2011 tour aims to help budding surfers and bodyboarders improve their technique with expert water, beach and classroom coaching, and slow-motion video analysis from Russell, Rob and their team of top-level coaches.

Sponsored by Carve surfing magazine and ThreeSixty bodyboard magazine, the tour is being covered for a series of articles that are aiming to unearth some of the talented surfers in these areas that perhaps haven't had the coverage that they deserve in the past.
Russ Winter is an inspirational surfer and the best Britain has ever produced. As the current UKPST Champion and multiple European number 1, he is running the series of surf coaching weekends around the UK and Ireland for people that can surf but want to improve. He said: "I am stoked to be hitting the road and visiting some of my favourite spots around the UK and Ireland ... I've been surfing for 25 years, 15 of which as a full-time professional, and I'm really looking forward to sharing some of my knowledge with guys who love the sport and want to progress.

"It will be fun meeting new and old faces, sharing a few tales and waves ... it should be a great tour. As well as providing expert coaching and getting more kids involved at an elite level, Carve mag and myself are hoping to unearth a few hot local talents and help them on their way to bigger things."

The weekends comprise of four focused coaching sessions for both bodyboarders and surfers, and include video analysis, maneuver, equipment and fitness advice, plus prize giveaways from event sponsors including a brand new bodyboard.

Rob Barber - who owns Britain's premier bodyboarding school - is also editor of ThreeSixty bodyboarding magazine, the most respected bodyboarding magazine in Europe. He said: "We are absolutely delighted to be able to take ThreeSixty on the road and visit those areas of the UK which deserve a light shone on them for having sick waves and a dedicated bodyboarding crew.

"The British Isles gets some world-class surf, and the whole idea of the ThreeSixty tour is to get out to the far corners of our islands, meet people, drum up stoke for the sport and help people progress in their riding in a fun, laid-back environment."

The coaching weekend costs 140 euros (£119) with the option of receiving a DVD of riding footage for a small additional cost. The event is sponsored by Carve and ThreeSixty magazines and promises to be a weekend of top surf action! Spaces are limited to 20 and get snapped up quickly, so call 01637 879571 to get your place on the weekend booked today.
