If you look around you'll see there is a resurgence in the memberships and coverage of local bodyboarding clubs. In summary of what they represent, we call these Grass Roots. The boys down at Mornington Peninsula have only been running for 4 months and already have 100 members for example.
The recent IBA GSS event in Peru saw domination by three riders for Port Macquarie's PMBA club in NSW - Chase O'Leary, Sam Bennett and Damian King. These pictures were released overnight by Gregg Taylor, the M.D. of the IBA requesting that they go out on social media sites saying that " It sends a very important message about the importance of grassroots bodyboarding and having a strong local club.... It sends a good message about the grass roots and why the industry should support the grass roots"
The proof is in the pudding. Dave Winchester is another example of the type of rider local clubs can produce, along with many others. If you're a rider anywhere, find your local club, or create one with your mates. If you're industry - get behind these clubs growing our future blood and the benefits are massive for everyone.
