WORLD CHAMPIONS
SUMOL SPECIAL EDITION IN NAZARETH 2011

The waiting period for this event, which will take place in Praia do Norte, begins on Wednesday and runs until 01 November.

Amaury Lavernhe, bodyboarding world champion, Pierre Louis Costes, vice-world champion, Jeff Hubbard, world champion in 2006 , 2009, Dudu Pedra, one of the most renowned big wave riders of our times, will be present in Sumol Nazare Special Edition 2011. For the first time in the history of this event, that is integrated in the calendar of the International Bodyboarding Association (IBA), will be in competing 24 athletes instead of 20 as in previous editions.

After completion of the the Reunion the IBA World Tour stage, Amaury Lavernhe, Pierre Louis Costes and Jeff Hubbard are scheduled to travel to Nazare. AmauAmaury Lavernheom the Reunion Islands, tem 25 anos, and presents an explosive and consistent bodyboard being the holder of the world champion title. Frenchman Pierre Louis Costes, de 20 anos, the vice-world champion, being considered the most talented and promising bodyboarder of nowdays.. With two Worls Titles inder his belt 2006 , 2009, Jeff Hubbard 'The Flying Hawaiian', de 35 anos, is the current leader in the IBA ranking.. From Brazil comes Dudu Pedra, de 31 anos. Heages oisf the most respected big wave riders of the moment, having achieved his international recognition in the powerful waves of Itacoatiara, Niterói.

The waiting period of Sumol Nazare Special Edition 2011 starts tomorrow, on the 12 October, and will run until the 01 November. For this fifth edition, promoters will keep the same concept previously adopted, offering to the participating athletes excellent conditions in terms of waves , within the waiting period established.

The Canyon of Nazaré and the waves of Praia do Norte
The Nazaré Canyon is a rare geomorphologic accident, being the Europe's largest canyons and one of the largest in the world, it consists of a continental plate failure with about 170 170 km long and reaching 5 km depth. . Situated on the seafront of Praia do Norte, this phenomenon channels all the North Atlantic swell directly to this beach with virtually no obstacles, which creates waves with an abnormal size, compared to the rest of the Portuguese coast. . A true playground for all wave sport lovers, that find on this beach the ideal conditions to overcome their limits..
