Galdar, Grand Canaria.
November 27th - December 5th
Travelsim Team Australia left Sydney Airport today to compete in the first ever stand alone ISA World Bodyboarding games in Galdar, Grand Canaria starting November 27th.
The event features 21 Teams from around the globe competing for the mantle of World Amateur champion.
Three divisions will be contested at the week long carnival and the following riders will be competing for Australia.
Open Men Lachie Cramsie & Joey Orme (Qld)
Open Women Nicole Fleming (Tas)
Junior men George Humphries (WA)
IBA Australasian General Manger Terry McKenna says that the team is bursting with talent.
"The riders were selected directly off the recent RAW National titles in Kiama and are in great form. They are a fresh young team that represents a new era in Australian Bodyboarding" he said.
"Nicole, Lachie and George all won Australian titles and Joey was runner up in the Open Mens. I expect that this team will surprise the other Nations and bring home some great results" he added.
The team has also been training at the Surfing Australia SEP camp in Casurina sponsored by the Australian Sports Commission.
Australia has dominated stand up surfing for many years and and in bodyboarding the situation is much the same with almost half of the Top 24 riders in the world being Australians.
" Our strong National Tour combined with cutting edge training practices has seen Australia dominate the sport for the last ten years" said Mckenna.
The team is supported by Travelsim, Surfing Australia, Australian Sports Commission and IBA Australasia
