Some magazines you read. le Boogie Issue 9 is one to be fondled. It likes it like that. To tell the truth, I don't just fondle between the covers - I fondle the covers too, such a fine finish that reinforces the fact that print will never die. Digital will now always be with us (and LB is available in digi format - see www.leboogie.com for deets), but it cannot replace our the tactile sensations and the visual engagement offered by paper. Fondle away to your hearts content.
Tits are sexy. le Boogie is sexy. There is a connection. The thing is, if you have something that works, there is no reason to change it. You can tweak it, but don't go changing the damn thing. Boobs have a formula, it's worked for thousands of years, from ancient times till now. At the other end of the scale, 9 issues in, le Boogie works. Carnage cave, intro outro, full bleed, frame rate, unzipped, 10 x 10, Open air theatre. These are the things I look for, I anticipate seeing them, reading them, absorbing them. The familiarity makes me feel at home, I know it is le Boogie. They say familiarity breeds contempt, but the innovations, the freshness in these familiar section leaves only a warm, moist feeling. Contempt is far away for that which is commercial, stale, repetitive and boring. These things are not here. You will not find them.
Then we have the tweaks, the implants if you like, the Wonderbra that makes more of what is already there, the chicken fillets slyly slipped in to get that raw desire stepped up a little. ‘Features' these enhancements are called. "Who the fuck is Elliot Morales" & "The whirly bird gets the worm" is another. There are more of course, but here I aim to tease you, so you have to wait until you get this sultry diva in your hands before unveiling all her secrets.
James Kates gets cover. Fuck, so good. Years ago I remember seeing Katesy surf pipe for the first time. It was his flow that stuck out in the crowd. Smooth, so smooth. I asked a mate "Who is that young bloke shredding the place?" (like I said it was a long time ago). He asked another mate and then I had a name to put in that section of my mind that knows this person has a future in bodyboarding, should they wish to pursue it and have the minerals to last the distance.
HB have built a team with foresight and I was impressed when they brought Flames on (Kates has the biggest variety of nicknames for one person I have ever seen btw). Katesy's creativity will be on fire this Saturday night as Gracias el Gato graces the little seaside town of Thirroul. At the Mega movie prem last weekend he warned it is ‘pretty crazy'. That's a big statement from a man who loves craziness. The prem will be totally off the hook, as was Viking - be warned...... bring your party sombrero.
Le Boogie is recognised on the street as ‘the photographer's magazine', probably because of the Toinz factor, it was always going to be. Apart from the shot quality, there is usually some ‘photographic phanatic' gear between the pages. In this case it's Luke Shadbolt doing funky double frame panoramic with a Deutsche rangefinder rig - amongst other things - with Andy Lawrence. Film, strange stuff in a digi world. Beautiful. And just to give the surf shooters a porn-worthy stiffy ... "Custom made housing for the hasselblad x-pan". Just sayin'.
Queensland gets its own feature. Cramsie, Bruce, Clarke, Innocend, Gornall & Cade represent. The text gives a quick rundown of the quirks of the sunshine state.
Names some haven't heard of before, such as Josh Kaihe in a smoking Shark island pit. "Blackie" as we call him in the surf and in Dessie's shop is another up and coming young talent. Polite and quiet, Josh lets his riding roar for him. Luke O'Connor, well you should have heard of him. Robson's lens talent scores Luke a shot in 10 x 10 , another rider I've been waiting to see blow-up in BB media. Oliver Hardy, meanest nappies in town. One can only wonder what lays in the sponging future of wee Oli. Hardballs' genetics will give the little man a big headstart in life.
So much more. But that will have to satiate your intial desires. If you want more, you'll need to go to www.leboogie.com or your local newsagent and sort it from there. If you have a newso with no taste and the smoking sexiness of LB is not sitting up pert like a young, firm rack before your scanning eyes, write to le Boogie and let ‘em know. Magic will happen.
