Events Sumol Nazare 2012

The 2012 Sumol Nazare Portugal special event is scheduled to run on Sunday the 8th of January. Nazare is a highly anticipated event as the area has the ability to hold very big swells for a beachie. Craig Brokensha from www.swellnet.com.au knows his bathymetry (the study of ocean floor topography) & explains why this is so:
"Directly west off Nazare is the Nazare Canyon. This is a deep and wide canyon that runs all the way from the shelf break towards Nazare. Swells coming in from the west to north-west are usually focused towards Nazare by this canyon and see less energy loss due to bottom friction, hence the unique nature for Nazare to focus and hold large swells."

Riders include:
International guests Australia's Joe Clarke, France's Pierre Louis Costes and the Canary Islands' Elliot Morales. Local Portuguese chargers Luís "Porkito" Pereira, Fábio "Marreta" Laureano, Gonçalo "Pitaça" Campos, Jaime Jesus, Ricardo Faustino, António Cardoso, João "Mag8" André, Gastão Entrudo, Dino Carmo, Tiago Moita Silva, Paulo Costa, Filipe "Fifi" Ferreira, João Pinheiro, Rui Ferreira, Francisco "Chico" Pinheiro, Bernardo Barroso, João Neiva, Rui Pereira, Jerome Bernard, Silvano Lourenço e Hugo Macatrão.
