Dylan Beach has punched through this "Fast Five" interview with fellow South Oz shredder Lance Hurford:

Young Lance Hurford has been on the SA scene for a while now. Started out by waiting for the left overs at his local Knights Beach, over the years the 21 year old has now has matured into a season veteran in the SA lineups. His surfing smooth, powerful and defiantly a stand out whenever the waves turn on around home. I caught up with Lance to fire some questions his way.

Dylan Beach: You're one of the younger guys in the SA lineups at the moment, whats your thoughts on the SA bodyboard scene at the moment?

Lance Hurford: I think the current SA bodyboard scene is pretty average. We haven't got a strong community of bodyboarders compared to other states. We have some local comps every now and then, but we only get one state titles round each year and it usually gets thrown on the back of the pro event and rushed through by the organisers.

DB: It's a lot harder for SA bodyboarders to gain exposure from mags and websites, even though SA has featured pretty heavily in both recently. Do you find it frustrating putting in the hard yards at all the same locations and not being rewarded?

LH: We have world class waves in our backyard, yet 100s of shots and hours of footage of every other states best bodyboarders riding them. We put in the hard yards to get these waves, but there is little reward. That being said, who needs a published photo to justify that the waves were pumping? Its all about the shit you get to give your mates for not going.

DB: We've always had a pretty friendly rivalry since we were young. I can remember you getting your first board sponsor and being pretty jealous. For myself I've used it as fire to get my surfing better than yours. What's your take on it?

LH: I think our rivalry has been fun. I remember seeing your big nose out at Knights and thinking "That Beach kid froths way too hard" about 5 or 6 years ago. Then we became friends/rivals. I used to like thinking about it as a Mike Honeybone vs Eli Beach situation, though far from it, we've always continued to push each other in the surf. I will never forget that drop in at lighthouse in Port Mac. Best barrel that trip.

DB: 2011 you stopped chasing the waves a bit, due to work commitments taking over. Tell us your plans for 2012.

LH: Last year I found myself in a bit of a working rhythm, so i just ran with it for most of the year. It wasn't until towards the end of 2011 that I felt I hadn't done anything, so I promptly booked flights to Portugal and scored 6-8ft supertubes! (Which Dylan had every chance to score with us, but decided against it. I gave him shit about it) Plans for the future include moving back to NSW with my girlfriend, Fiji and West Coast.

DB: Where do you think SA bodyboarding is heading in the next few years? Bigger and better or on a downwards spiral?

LH: I think that you and I have some good things to do for SA bodyboarding still. Plus guys like Eli, Jasper, Karl, Tippo and all of our other friends can still show that SA has what it takes. What we lack in comp surfing, we make up for in free surfing.
