Bodyboard King has had a bricks and mortar store for six months now, we ask Toby Player how it is going:

FZ: You started off with an online store and then opened a ‘bricks and mortar' shop, what were some of the factors in your transition Tobes?
TP: Well I had a lot of the stock on hand anyway at my studio space and a lot of people wanted to check the stock out before buying. I was also over driving to the city everyday so I decided to open a shop, put the stock on display and be 5 mins from home.

FZ: You've had the doors open for around six months now - what have you learned ?
TP: I've learned that it's much more rewarding interacting with customers and giving them the right advice. Also it's a lot more responsibility and commitment but all worth it!

FZ: Would you do anything differently in the set-up of a physical shop if you did it again?
TP: Maybe have a bit bigger space with more parking but besides that I think I nailed it first try.

FZ: Bodyboard shops are becoming a bit of a rarity, yet we need your presence so much. What are the advantages for the BB community in shopping with a BB dedicated store, as against , say a shop that has a cross section of stick and boogie gear?
TP: The advantage is you get the right board, wetsuit, fins or leash for you, We have so many different sizes, colours, styles. it's sometimes too much choice. We can offer 4 or 5 different options suited to the rider whereas the surf store might have 1 if they're lucky

FZ: You have a sale this weekend, what's on offer?
TP: Yes we have a 20% storewide Sale.
Everything in the shop is 20% off. We also have a heap of bargains online at www.bodyboardking.com

FZ: Can you tell us one of your epic surf stories , just cos you're a good storyteller and have done so much crazy shit?
TP: Wow. There's a lot. One epic one was surfing in Vicco. We had to scale down the cliff with a makeshift rope made of towels as the area is fenced off. It was right on dusk and the light was amazing. The cliff was lit up light Ayers Rock on sunset. It was just Jared Houston and I surfing with Matt Ryan and Sacha Specker shooting. It was like surfing in some roman colosseum with all the rock walls and island closing us in.
Every move was brought with a bunch of cheers from the viewing platform above as the Asian tourists who had come to get their postcard shots were distracted by the crazy dudes surfing under the cliffs.
