John 'Gibbo' Gibson is certainly no slouch on the knee. we catch up for a few quick words with the man before he takes off for the trials in Hawaii:

FZ: How long have you been bodyboarding and why DK Gibbo?
JG: 21 years. Used to skate heaps and saw Ballard in the mags DK and just wanted to try and picked it up straight away loved it!!

FZ: Who are your sponsors?
JG: Shednine, NMD, Suburban Armour, Throwtail.com, Revbook

FZ: Tell us a bit about yourself and your past please Gibbo.
JG: Well won't go into great detail but left school and was surfing everyday and picked up Quiksilver and they sent me all over the place and this is when I fell in love with Indo! A few years on I was loving life but all of a sudden Quiksilver decided they didn't want to have anything to do with bodyboarding so the tram was dumped.. So I was sponsorless as they supplied boards and everything.. This broke me a bit and at the same time was partying a lot and I didn't bother to try for another sponsor and slowly stopped bodyboarding riding a surfboard more. Living ten steps from surfers paradise nightclubs the party scene got a hold of me and I was slowly finding myself not surfing much at all and eventually getting myself in a bit of trouble so decided to move to N.T and work in the mines for a few years .. I didn't surf for nearly 6 years but set myself up with a sick pad at Miami back on Gold Coast. I moved back and a bit over 2 years ago one of my best mates got married in Bali. So ended up paddling out at 6 foot Padang Padang first surf in 6 years but was just like riding a bike got some sick DK barrel and loved it! This sparked a fire in me and haven't stopped since. Been back every year for 2 months every time. Now I'm really trying to prove to myself that I can still surf at top level so off to pipe I go for first event on world tour.

FZ: What shape boards?
JG: I am lucky to have Mez shape mine and I prefer thin nose with wide point down near knee close to full crescent tail just tiny pegs 50/50 rails pp core 42 inch

FZ: Anyone you want to mention?
JG: Yeah my mates for getting me back out in the water you know who you are!! Eddie from Shednine who has stood by me all these years and taken me on some Awesome adventures around the world yeww!! Mez at NMD for sick boards and all my other sponsors..
