Matt Lackey is over in Hawaii at the moment (in case you hadn't guessed from his Daily Frame today). Lack always has a few words to say and doesn't mind speaking whatever he reckons is a fair thing in his mind. When Lack sent his Frame of Stewbags and Luke Bickley's shot of himself at Keiki through, I thought it would be a good time to catch up on the vibe of where he's up and what he sees happening in the DKWT at the moment.

Hey Lack, what's doing over in Hawaii at the moment?
Lack: Hawaii has been amazing, I've been here a week and my eyes are blood shot from to much salt...love it

Doc: The DKWT has come into a new strength this year, what are you liking about how it's looking?
Lack: I think more money is starting to come into each event, which is something I like about the new tour.

Doc: Any cons/negs you can see?
Lack: no negatives, the only weak link I see in the whole iba tour has been some of the judging, prone and DK...but I guess that's always going to be there to some existent...but the iba has done wonders for the sport over the past 12 months you no complaints.

Doc: Some of the DK guys get a bit wound up about ‘non-dedicated' riders going into the DK division (blokes that ride a lot of prone and some DK) vs guys like you that are recognised as pretty much dedicated dropkneers who occasionally prone it. What are your thoughts there?
Lack: Oh yeh...that old chestnut, I recon good on Winny and Kingy and all those guys...I mean why not? they love DK and there at each event for the prone so they might as well...unfortunately all the 100% DK guys just don't get the finical backing/sponsorships to be able to travel to each event, plus even if they win an event they will only just cover there costs of getting there, and contest surfing is a whole different thing, guys are winning heats with forced moves and no style, but that's just contests, it is what it is.

Doc: Pretty epic having Kainoa as a wildcard. The Hawaiian riders are going to be hard to beat on their home turf, how are you feeling about going up against them there? Is it one of those situations where you'll be pushed to raise the bar just to survive heats?
Lack: I go into contests to have fun, I don't get into the whole strategic side of thing, hopefully everyone has to raise the bar to survive heats, and yeh Kainoa and Dubb will be hard to beat but I just hope its pumping backdoor and everyone is getting barrelled.

Doc: The judging of the DKWT, are they going to bring in judges who specialise more in DK, or keep pretty much the same judges who score the prone?
Lack: Im not sure what they are doing on the judging, like I said before I think its something they need to work on, it would be nice to see some dk guys in there giving it some direction.

Doc: If you were judging DKWT, what are the main three things you would be looking for to encourage riders to really tear the bag, push limits and bring out the essence of dropknee riding?
Lack: Speed - Style - Power ....i would tell them no grovelling bullshit, surf the wave how it should be surfed, don't force moves on sections that aren't there, id be giving minus's for some of the shit I see go down on tour, I would just encourage people to surf smooth and look functional.
