Itacoatiara, Brazil - Tuesday 12th June 2012 - GSS Round 4, 5 and 6 of the 2012 IBA Itacoatiara Pro sponsored by Pride, and NET ran to completion in sunny, clean 3-4 foot (1-1.5 meter) waves today. Local wildcard, Jose Otavio (BRA) dominated todays competition, posting the two highest heat scores of the day, 16.63 in Round 5 and 16.08 in Round 6. Having completed Round 6, only eight riders remain in the event, matched up into man-on-man quarterfinals. The first will feature two super talents, 2x world champion Ben Player (AUS) vs the current world champion Pierre-Louis Costes (FRA). Quarterfinal 2 has number 1 seed Dave Winchester (AUS) matched up against the Brazilian danger man and 2008 world champion Uri Valadao and quarterfinal 3 has 6x world champion Guilherme Tamega vs his talented fellow country man Eder Luciano. The last quarterfinal will see todays points leaders, Jose Otavio vs Mitch Rawlins (AUS) who posted a heat score of 16.00 to take out his Round 4 heat.

The new "showdown format" features two non-elimination Rounds throughout the draw. Round 1 and 4 have been designed to encourage riders to go bigger and harder, being rewarded for a Round 1 first or second place by skipping Round 2 and a Round 4 win is rewarded with a quarter final spot, deemed by most riders as a counting result. A Round 4 second place finish is seeded into Round 6, skipping Round 5.
